Lynden takes its roots in 1871, but it was established in 1874, as a pioneer settlement lead by Holden and Phoebe Judson near Nooksack Indian village Squahalish. It was named during the establishment in 1874. Inhabitants of Lynden city are known as “Lyndenites”. It is also home to the Northwest Washington Fair. There were 3,426 households in the 2000 census, which was increased in a census 2010 to 4,594.
